The Faculty of Biology at Bielefeld University has a vacancy for a
W1-TT-W2-Professor for Ecology and Biodiversity
to be filled at the earliest opportunity.
The Faculty of Biology is looking for a promising early-career scientist to join and further strengthen the focus area of ecology and biodiversity in a changing environment in both research and teaching.
We expect

- a PhD in relevant fields
- a strong publication record
- ability to teach experimental and field ecology classes at all levels (in German and English). We expect the tenure-track professor to be able to teach in German in the undergraduate programmes within 2 years
In addition we would welcome:
- first experiences in applying and securing third-party funding
- an experimental focus on biodiversity in the context of ecosystems
- consideration of within-species variation (genetic, morphological, behavioural, chemical) in addition to species diversity and possibility to integrate into the JICE (Joint Institute for Individualisation in a Changing Environment)
- ability to consider applied research questions on biodiversity in multifunctional environments and landscapes under human use and conservation biology preferentially at the field scale
- contributions to innovative biodiversity and environmental management concepts/decision making
- willingness and potential for interdisciplinary research, for example in urban ecology or in connection with social scientists or public health scientists
- postdoctoral experience in relevant fields
The tenure-track professor will teach in the undergraduate study programmes “Biologie- and “Umweltwissenschaften- and in the international Master programme “Ecology and Environmental Change-.
The recruitment requirements are based on § 36 HG.
The appointment as a W1 professor is initially limited to 3 years, with the possibility of extension for a further 3 years after a positive interim evaluation. In the event of a positive tenure evaluation in the last year, the subsequent transfer to a permanent W2 professorship is planned. The interim/tenure evaluations are regulated in the statutes for quality assurance of professorships with tenure track (TT).
Tenure track professorships are firmly established as an equal appointment option at Bielefeld University. Tenure-track professors are offered a target group-specific personnel development programme that provides support during the arrival phase and in preparation for the interim and tenure evaluation.
Applications from suitable severely disabled people and disabled people of equal status are welcome.
