PRIF – Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (Germany)
The PRIF – Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (Germany), in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office, is looking to fill the following positions as soon as possible:
Two doctoral-candidate positions (m/f/d), in part-time (65 %), in salary group 13 TV-H, in Research Department I in the field of arms control, disarmament, and nonproliferation,
The positions are each limited to a duration of three years with the possibility of a one-year extension each (acc. to the WissZeitVG – German law regulating the employment of scientific workers).
The doctoral proposal should focus on historical, contemporary, and/or future problems of arms control. It should present possible solutions for arms control and disarmament in a contentious world in which multilateralism is consistently under pressure. In this context, the proposal can focus on conventional, nuclear, or other weapons of mass destruction, cybersecurity, the proliferation of weapon systems or dual-use-technologies, new technologies and problems of verification, or other aspects of arms control.
Successful applicants will become temporary scientific employees of PRIF, participate in the predoc-colloquium as well as in the sessions of PRIF’s research council, and participate in events and activities of the institute. Furthermore, successful applicants will enjoy one or two multi-week work exchanges at the German Federal Foreign Office, for which they must pass a security check, as well as visitations to international research institutes or organizations.
As an applicant, you should fulfill the following requirements:
- An above average degree (at least “gut“ according to the German Grading System) in a relevant discipline that grants eligibility for the pursuit of a doctoral degree;
- Scientific interest in the theories and methods of International Relations as well as a certifiable interest in the field of peace and conflict research and arms control;
- Good spoken and written command of German and English. Depending on the chosen field of research, other language skills may be of advantage;
- Ability to work in an international team.
