The University of Kassel is a modern and growing University with round about 23.000 students. The university’s wide range of expertise covers subjects in the natural, applied, cultural and social sciences.
The Kunsthochschule of the University of Kassel is seeking a highly qualified individual for the following position in the study program “Visual Arts” as soon as possible:
We are looking for a person with a nationally and internationally recognized artistic practice. The task of the future holder of the position is to familiarize first-year students in the Fine Arts and Art Education programs with the complexity of artistic questions and processes in theory and practice as one of the two professors of the foundation class.
An outstanding and independent artistic oeuvre and several years of exhibition experience are expected. Publications in art theoretical formats or in the form of catalogues and reviews in recognized magazines are required. The position holder is expected to contribute to the international reputation of the Kunsthochschule Kassel.
A research and teaching focus is expected that concentrates on questions of mediating and further developing artistic competence. In addition, a meaningful complement to the teaching positions at the art academy is required. For this purpose, subject-related teaching experience, didactic competences, and the willingness and ability to conduct courses in German and English are expected. Pedagogical aptitude should be proven by relevant teaching experience. A concept for qualified independent teaching, which in particular takes up ideas on cooperative interdisciplinary teaching and learning formats, is to be enclosed with the application. The teaching load of the professorship is currently 18 semester hours per week (according to LVerpflV HE, Hessische Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung), which can be fulfilled in the visual arts by supervising a class, in this case the foundation class.
In addition to research, artistic work, and teaching, the duties of the position also include promoting young artists, which is why personnel management skills and social competence are required. The post holder should also contribute to the further conceptual development of the foundation studies and the study program in Fine Arts. The duties include participating in the academic self-administration of the Kunsthochschule Kassel/Universität Kassel. The willingness to engage accordingly in the committee work, which is predominantly conducted in German, is therefore expected.
The prerequisites for employment and performance requirements are determined by §§ 67, 68 of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Hesse (HessHG).
In the event of any differences between the German and English versions of this call for application, the German wording is legally binding.
