University Professorship (W3) in the field of "Mathematics - Mathematical Modeling of Industrial Life Cycles"
Technische Universität Berlin
Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), Faculty II – Mathematics and Natural Sciences – Institute of Mathematics invites applications for a
University Professor – salary grade W3
in the field of "Mathematics – Mathematical Modeling of Industrial Life Cycles" .
The professorship is part of the Werner-von-Siemens Centre for Industry and Science (WvSC).
Faculty II Reference number: II-346/20 (starting at the earliest possible / for the duration of the appointment period / closing date for applications 03/09/20)
Working field: The position requires research and teaching in the development, analysis and implementation of mathematical methods for the automatized, energy-based generation of model hierarchies, for the data-based identification of model parameters, as well as error analysis and uncertainty quantification. It is expected that the successful applicant will participate in major research projects, such as collaborative research centres and research training groups (CRC 1029 TurbIn, CRC 910, RTG DAEDALUS, CRC TRR 154, and the cluster of excellence MATH+). Teaching will be required in all mathematical degree programs (including undergraduate) and in the service teaching of mathematics for other programs. Candidates should be able to teach in German and English. Furthermore, candidates are expected to supervise students' theses on Bachelor, Master and PhD level as well as to participate in the academic administration of the university.
Requirements: Successful applicants must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act). These include a completed academic education in mathematics or a comparable discipline, qualified achievements in research (doctorate in mathematics), additional academic achievements and pedagogical-didactic qualifications, to be demonstrated by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB Website, quick access no. 144242, details will be sent upon request). Candidates should have an internationally visible profile based on excellent achievements in current mathematical research as demonstrated by relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals. They should work in an area of Mathematical Modeling and be able to represent the field in research and teaching. Relevant experience in teaching, including the supervision of Bachelor's, Master's and PhD theses, as well as experience in administrative duties and experience in third-party funded and joint research projects is expected. Competencies in the promotion of junior researchers and women as well as in the area of gender and diversity are desired. The area of research expertise should allow an integration in the working group "Modeling, Numerics and Differential Equations" and the WvSC as well as further collaborative research projects. An adequate involvement in the Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) and the Berlin International Graduate School in Model and Simulation based Research (BIMoS) is desired.
Technische Universität Berlin is determined to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages qualified female researchers to apply. Qualified individuals with disabilities will be favored. The TU Berlin values the diversity of its members and is committed to the goals of equal opportunities.
