University Professorship (W3) Geomechanics and Multiphysics Systems

The Faculty of Energy and Economic Sciences of Technische Universität Clausthal (TUC), Germany, is seeking to appoint the position of a
(Salary Scale W3 BBesO)
Geomechanics and Multiphysics
at the Institute of Mineral and Waste Processing, Waste Disposal and Geomechanics.
The successful candidate should have an outstanding scientific qualification, with in-depth knowledge in the following topics:
Model development in the areas of rock mechanics and soil mechanics as well as numerical simulation of coupled mechanical-hydraulic-thermal processes in sub-surface systems,
load-bearing behaviour and tightness of sub-surface systems (energy storage, waste disposal, underground construction, raw material extraction, post-mining), and
laboratory investigations of the multiphysical behaviour of rock, soil, backfill materials, and deposits
in research, lecturing and continuing education.
TU Clausthal is highly interested in offering research-related academic education in the areas mentioned above as well as in basic subjects. Teaching includes the lecturing of geomechanics, tunnel statics, disposal and cavern storage technology including the relevant safety cases in German and English for various BSc and MSc courses at the university. Strong commitment to good teaching is expected.
The chair has ample computer and laboratory equipment at its command in order to address the areas mentioned above.
The successful candidate contributes actively to TU Clausthal’s research objectives, particularly to the core research theme “Sustainable Energy Systems”. Active cooperation both with neighbouring departments of the university as well as partners in Germany and abroad is expected.
Experience in the successful acquisition of third-party funded projects and good networking within the community of the relevant areas are expected.
In addition to a university degree in engineering or geosciences related to the aforementioned areas, an outstanding doctoral degree and a habilitation or equivalent accomplishments are expected.
The requirements of the position are defined in Section 25 of Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz NHG).

A part-time appointment may be possible on request.
Applicants who are 50 years or older at the time the appointment commences and who have not acquired permanent civil servant status (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit) will be employed with employee status (Angestelltenverhältnis).
