We are a young, innovative university in the middle of the Metropole Ruhr. Excellent in research and teaching, we think in terms of possibilities instead of limits and develop ideas with a future. We live diversity, promote potential and are committed to educational equity worthy of the name.
The University Duisburg-Essen offers at the Campus Duisburg in the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering two PhD positions (f/m/d) for the project “Development of scalable techniques for dispersion, application and transfer of electrode slurries via roll-to-roll decal-processes for the preparation of PEMFC-CCMs (R2R-CCM)"
The aim of the interdisciplinary project R2R-CCM is to advance the development of scalable and continuously operable processes for the application of pastes for the mass production of electrode layers in the context of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC). The electrode layer production is pursued via the indirect application by the decal method where new pastes and paste compositions are coated onto intermediate foils before their transfer to the actual membrane eventually. Hence, new developments additionally include materials (e.g. new substrate materials used as transfer foil) and their optimization for the targeted processes in R2R manufacturing.
To achieve the challenging tasks of the project, within the interdisciplinary consortium of three project partners we try to address the tasks by an iterative approach for the development of formulations as well as production technology. In that regard, we try to link various properties (e.g. material, formulation, layer structure) along the process chain especially with performance data during the use as actual fuel cell and hence try to derive process-structure-property relationships.
