The successful applicant will cover the area named above in research and teaching. The professorship is incorporated in the Institute for Biology and
has a research focus on the intersection of microbiology and biodiversity, ecology as well as evolution with a focus on genomics.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (
Berliner Hochschulgesetz).
Applicants are required to have a strong scholarly record of peer-reviewed publications with evidence of international research activities in the field of microbiology
with a focus on ecology or evolution. Possible topical foci are adaptation of microorganisms towards environmental changes, for example antimicrobial agents, conflict
and cooperation of microorganisms, host-microbe interactions. We are looking for someone with the ability to participate in existing joint projects as well as future
collaborations. Candidates should also be able to teach classes in the Biology Bachelor and Master programs (nine weekly course hours per semester), especially in
Microbiology, in both German and English. Additionally, applicants are expected to have experience in acquiring and leading externally funded research projects.
Apart from the official duties in accordance with Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:
Involvement in the Center for Biodiversity (BBIB), the Berlin Center for Genomics in Biodiversity Research (BeGenDiv), and in future initiatives of this research
area as well as in the Dahlem Centre of Plant Sciences (DCPS) is desired.
We would like the new professor to focus her or his research on questions within the field of biodiversity, ecology, evolution with High-Throughout-Methods (RNAseq,
genome sequencing) or experimental evolution or microfluidics. German language skills will need to be acquired within a reasonable period of time (approximately
three years). The appointee is expected to also address gender and diversity issues relevant to the field in research and teaching.
