Senior Researcher in OSCE Research

This is for a full-time position, starting on 1 December 2017, at the "EG 14" pay grade according to the collective agreement on wages and salaries of the City of Hamburg (TV-AVH).
The IFSH is an interdisciplinary research institute with an international reputation. It is supported by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The IFSH is dedicated to excellence in research and fully integrated in relevant international networks. It concentrates on questions at the intersection of peace and security, with a geographical focus on the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian areas.
CORE is the only research centre worldwide to focus specifically on the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and a leading think-tank on OSCE-related topics. The Centre undertakes basic research in areas such as European security, arms control, transnational risks, conflicts and transformation processes in Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia. It also provides consulting, training and capacity-building services.
Key responsibilities
  • Leading the Centre for OSCE Research and representing it in its relations with other academic institutions, government departments, and international organizations (from 1 December 2018)
  • Conducting research and providing consulting services relating to European peace and security policy, including the development of the CSCE/OSCE and its interinstitutional co-operation with the EU, NATO, the Council of Europe, and subregional organizations
  • Teaching and supervisory activities within the Master of Peace and Security Studies postgraduate degree programme
Qualifications
  • A university degree in politics, the social sciences, or some other relevant field, together with an above-average doctoral qualification in a relevant area
Additional requirements
  • Experience in conducting basic research and providing consulting services in the area of European peace and security policy, including the development of the CSCE/OSCE and its inter-institutional co-operation with the EU, NATO, the Council of Europe, and subregional organizations, as demonstrated via a record of academic publication in domestic and international journals
  • Experience in applying for external funds and managing externally funded projects
  • Fluency in German and English. Additional language skills will be looked upon favourably
  • Organizational talent and the ability to perform both as part of a team and when working independently
