Marvel Fusion, founded in July 2019 and based in Munich, is the German technology pioneer in the field of safe, clean and reliable power generation. The company is developing a completely new type of fusion energy technology with the aim of building and operating commercially attractive fusion power plants. Marvel Fusion's current team of about 25 people, including world-leading scientists and experienced entrepreneurs, has developed a unique technology that dramatically increases the probability of fusion and builds on recent advances in laser and nanoscience. Marvel Fusion's mission requires a high level of team effort as well as close and constructive collaboration between experts from diverse knowledge disciplines.

Your mission

As Scientist Fusion Experiments, you support the physics department in experiments and diagnostic development for ultrashort pulse lasers and their interactions with plasmas at different labs worldwide.

Your tasks and responsibilities:
  • Plan, develop set-ups, perform and support experiments and their data analysis concerning ultrashort pulse interaction with advanced targets at different labs worldwide with the aim to establish scaling laws for prediction of number of fusion reactions
  • Develop, build and integrate new diagnostics for ultrashort laser-plasma interaction, based on secondary sources of photons and particles for research and fusion applications
  • Work collaboratively with other scientists (theorist and experimentalists) and engineers and take a leadership role in the development of diagnostics and the experimental program

Your profile

  • Ph.D. in Physics or a related field plus postdoctoral research experience, or equivalent breadth and depth of experience
  • Experience and expertise on experimental studies of ultra-high intensity laser plasma interaction relevant for HED and Fusion applications
  • Experience in modelling of laser-plasma interactions
  • Recognition as a resource or high impact contributor as evidenced by conference presentations or publication in refereed journals
  • Excellent proficiency in English
  • Capability to be flexible and creative in pursuing new topics and carrying out forefront research in high field laser-matter interaction, high energy density laboratory physics and particle acceleration
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with all members of Marvel Fusion and its collaborators
  • Availability to travel including international
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative
  • Exceptional work ethic and a deep sense of accountability
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to multi-task, working on conflicting priorities simultaneously, while always meeting deadlines and high standards of work quality
