Research Associate (f/m) for the
Development of New Planning Tools for
the Installation of Offshore Wind Farms
Who we are...
Wind energy is our primary focus. Our institute is home to more than 250 employees and students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development. We achieve this with a combination of an internationally unique testing infrastructure and extensive methods expertise in the fields of the reliability and validation of wind turbines.
The duties awaiting you...
You will characterize the wind field that blows through a wind turbine based on extensive measurements such as three-dimensional LiDAR measurements, which you will combine with mathematical wind field models. When doing so, you will develop new methods for data evaluation and wind field reconstruction. The wind field you calculate is required to improve models for the aerodynamics of rotor blades, wind turbine loads, and their yields. Your day-to-day work will be very varied: you will carry out research to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field and, at the same time, you will be involved in different research and industry projects, communicate in interdisciplinary project teams, write publications and compile project reports (yes, we also have to do that), and acquire industry projects yourself. In addition, you will also apply for publicly funded research projects at national and European level.

Do you have a degree in an Engineering or a scientific discipline?
Have you already had the opportunity to put your expertise in the field of project planning and scheduling or the field of process simulation to the test in previous professional positions? Perhaps you've also already garnered knowledge in the fields of logistics, installation processes, or onshore and offshore wind energy? Are you interested in the research and further development of methods for the analysis of project plans and schedules? As you will be analyzing large quantities of data here, an interest in writing scripts and macros will facilitate your day-to-day work, plus existing MATLAB skills will make it easier for you to find your feet in your new role. You will present your results in your team and to our customers as well as the academic community. This is not a problem for you in both English and German. If you are interested in doing a Ph.D. - we can create the opportunities for you and support you on your way.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally, Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
The working time consists of 39 hours per week.
The position is initially limited to 3 years.
