RESEARCH ASSOCIATE / COMPUTER SCIENTIST

In Fraunhofer FKIE, more than 430 employees in Bonn and Wachtberg develop technologies and processes with the aim of early detection, mitigation and management of existential risks. In close cooperation with strategic partners, the institute is dedicated to the entire processing chain of data and information: from acquisition, transmission and processing to reliable dissemination. The department "Information Technology for Command & Control" (ITF) develops and tests architectures and interoperability solutions for complex information systems. In order to do so, we cooperate closely with the users. Our research topics include Vehicle Networking, Smart City architectures, Edge Computing, and Internet-of-Things.

What you will be responsible for:
Development of interoperability concepts in IoT and Smart City environments
Specification of semantic interoperability solutions for sensor integration
Design and implementation of demonstrators and reference implementations
Testing and verification of complex system-of-systems
Scientific contributions to international communities
What we expect from you
We are looking for research associates who
Want to familiarize themselves with pioneering techniques and solutions and can think both inside and outside of the box
Have completed higher academic studies in Mathematics, Computer Science, or other studies with an emphasis on technical skills
Have programming knowledge, preferably in Java or C++
Are interested in hardware-related proof-of-concept development
Ideally, you have experience in data modelling and the Unified Modelling Language and you are familiar with IoT and Smart City concepts.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits are based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally, Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
The working time consists of 39 hours per week.
The position is initially limited to 2 years.
This vacancy is also available on a part-time basis.
