Faculty II – Institute of Theoretical Physics Physics / Statistical Physics of Soft Matter and Biological Systems
Reference number: II-926/22 (starting at the earliest possible / for a period of 24 months / closing date for applications 17/02/23)
Working field: Research within a DFG funded project „An in silico model of the African trypanosome: Moving in complex environments“. A comprehensive simulation study using the method of multi-particle collision dynamics will explore the locomotion of the parasite African Trypanosome in complex geometries to understand its behavior in real environments. This includes microchannels with constrictions and obstacles as well as models for collagen networks and fat tissue. The investigations are planned in close collaboration with experiments in the group of Prof. Engstler in Würzburg.
Requirements:
  • successfully completed university degree (Master, diplom or equivalent) and successfully completed PhD in physics or a related field
  • very good knowledge in theoretical physics
  • very good prior knowledge in statistical physics of soft matter and biological systems
  • much experience in numerical simulations
  • high level of commitment and ability to work independently
  • good command of English and/or German is required, willingness to learn either English or German
