The Institute of Algebra and Geometry at the Faculty of Mathematics of the Otto-von-
Guericke-University Magdeburg, Germany, invites applications for a
W2-Professorship for Algebra
to be filled as soon as possible. A W2-Professorship is comparable to an Associate
We are looking for a renowned scientist in a modern area of Algebra, preferably with a
focus on applications in Statistics or Natural Sciences, in particular Biology. The applicant
is expected to be able to collaborate with the existing research groups at the Institute of
Algebra and Geometry and at the Department of Mathematics, and to be able to contribute
to third-party research activities and university-wide research collaborations such
as for example the Research Training Group "Mathematical Complexity Reduction" or
the research center „Dynamical Systems“. Previous experience in acquiring third-party
research grants is highly desirable.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in the teaching duties of the Department
of Mathematics including courses of the Bachelor and Master’s programs, as well
as service to other departments. For the core teaching program the teaching language is
German, while for some service courses proficiency in English is required.
