The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching.
The newly founded Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition & Health on the University of Bayreuth's Kulmbach Campus is currently seeking to appoint a
Professor of the Food Metabolome (full professorship)
at pay grade W 3 (minimum salary per month: 6,683 euros) to commence as soon as possible. This is a permanent civil service position.
We invite scholars with an excellent track record in research and teaching to apply. The successful candidate will use modern analytical methods
(in particular mass spectrometry) to characterize the composition of foods as comprehensively as possible. Approaches should go beyond mere 'fingerprinting'
and include the identification of individual molecular components. The research will be supported by a new Key Lab Metabolomics / Mass Spectrometry currently
in planning. Experience in the analysis of complex data sets, which can be incorporated into joint projects with the Professor of Bioinformatics, would be an asset.
The faculty is particularly interested in plant-based foods, products of microbial fermentation, but also in developments such as 'novel foods' (e.g. based on insects)
and 'in vitro food'. The work of the Professor of Food Metabolome will in cooperation with other faculty research groups (e.g. Nutritional Biochemistry, Nutrition
Physiology) also contribute to elucidating the physiological effects of food as well as changes caused by processing and interaction with the microbiome.
Active participation in the development of the new Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health is expected. This also includes the conception and establishment
of new scientific and interdisciplinary B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses such as the M.Sc. "Food Quality and Safety". The aim is to recruit an academic who offers links to the
economic, legal, or social science research groups of the faculty in the fields of food quality and safety or public health due to his or her research orientation.
An affiliation with the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry & Earth Sciences of the University of Bayreuth is also possible.
The ability to teach in English is required as a large number of the faculty's courses will be offered in English. International applicants must be ready and willing to teach in German within three years.
The general administrative requirements for hiring professors at universities in Bavaria apply. A complete description of the vacancy can be found at
www.uni-bayreuth.de/en (University / Work at the University / Job Vacancies).
Applications (curriculum vitae with list of publications, teaching experience, third-party funding and certificates) are to be submitted to the founding dean
Prof. Dr. Stephan Clemens electronically via

All documents will be deleted at the end of the appointment procedure in accordance with the requirements of data protection. Applicants are welcome to direct questions
