In a joint appointment with the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), the Medical Faculty of Ulm University is
seeking to fill the position of
Professor (W3) of a new senior research group "Mechanisms
of Propagation" (f/m/d)
This position is combined with a professorial appointment (grade W3) at Ulm University according to the Jülich model. The
successful candidate will be expected to collaborate closely with Ulm University as well.
The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a unique non-university research center which is dedicated to the
subject dementia and all its areas, as well as other neurodegenerative diseases. The center compasses the full spectrum of
fundamental research through population sciences to health care research. The DZNE stands for excellence in research and science
management, translation of scientific results into practice, interdisciplinarity and internationalization. It is a research center within
the Helmholtz Organization of German research centers. With over 1,000 employees from 55 nations, spread over 10 sites, the DZNE
is one of the national and international leading research centers in its research field.
The successful candidate is required to have a university degree in medical sciences, a doctoral degree, a habilitation - or
equivalent qualification, outstanding record of research achievements (§ 47 LHG). We are looking for an internationally recognized
scientist with a research focus in (clinical) neuroscience and proven expertise in mechanisms of neurological disorders and
neurodegenerative diseases. Innovative research, an independent and efficient research program as well as the willingness for
interdisciplinary cooperation are expected.
The research group will investigate propagation in neurodegenerative diseases, e.g. by analyzing transsynaptic, inflammatory or
immunological transmission pathways. The expected research focus is mechanisms of pathological protein aggregation and
transmission in innovative model systems, possibly in non-neuronal cells.
The Ulm site is engaged in translational research of neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS),
frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Huntington´s disease (HD), and open to investigation of other rare diseases.
