Full Professorship W 3 (m/f) for Medical Informatics.
The Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University is searching to fill the position of a full Professor (W 3)
"Medical Informatics" to strengthen faculty’s emphasis in Biomedical Informatics in research, education and service
at the University Medicine Mannheim.
Applicants should be skilled in the design, development and integration of IT infrastructures and data architecture for
healthcare environments. Furthermore, strong experiences in the development and implementation of projects to creating
interoperable IT solutions in order to support processes in medical care and research are a core prerequisite. Particular
emphasis is put on management, integration and analysis of distributed, autonomous and heterogeneous medical and scientific
data sources at the level of Hospital IT (health care) and the Faculty (research and education), data warehousing and data
protection/data security. Accordingly, the successful applicant should have a strong background and interest in the handling
and analysis of complex and big data. In close association with the "Heinrich-Lanz-Center for digital Health" (HLZ), the
"W 3-Professor for Medical Informatics" shall closely collaborate with the faculty’s research priority programs. An expansion
of the strong collaborations with the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Interdisciplinary Center for
Scientific Computing (IWR) is highly encouraged. We expect active participation in the development of the university-wide
data management concept under the guidance of the university computing center.
Teaching activities comprise the subject of Medical Informatics for the medical students within the Faculty´s reformed medical school curriculum "MaReCuMplus" and its associated master classes. Furthermore, the Professor is expected to actively participate in the bachelor program "Medical Informatics" and the master program "Informatics" with the focus "Medical Informatics" as run by the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim in conjunction from the Medical Faculty.
In addition to the general conditions required by the employment law for civil servants and government employees, prerequisites for the employment of professors are a university degree, teaching experience and the aptitude for academic work demonstrated by an outstanding PhD degree. Scientific achievements going beyond the doctorate, generally proved by a Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), are expected (§ 47 Landeshochschulgesetz (LHG) (State Law on Universities and Colleges)) or by equivalent scientific achievements that may be provided in an activity outside the higher education system or as part of a junior professorship.
The university expects active participation in academic administration and the commitment to attract external funding. We also expect active participation in further developing Medical Informatics in Germany within the organs of the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie e.V. (GMDS)".
The position is permanent (tenured) W 3-Professorship as an employee.
