Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences offers a range of engineering,
economics, health and human sciences courses to over 6,200 students across two sites.

Subject to the availability of funding, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences
is seeking to fill, at the earliest opportunity, the following post in the Department of
Social Work, Health and Media:
W2 Professorship in
and Health Reporting
The professor will be responsible, on the health-related Bachelor‘s and Master‘s degree
courses based at the Magdeburg campus, for teaching and research in Human Medicine
with the focus on social medicine, (social) epidemiology and health reporting, as well
as human biology. Contributions to research into healthcare provision are desirable. The
post holder will be responsible for teaching the principles of human and social medicine
taking into particular account health and sickness over the lifespan from the point of
view of health equity.
In terms of interdisciplinary collaboration, the post holder will make health sciencerelated
contributions in both scholarship and practice to the development of theories,
strategies and methods of prevention and health promotion based on the WHO concept.
The post holder shall also be responsible for organising and coordinating teaching in the
modules assigned to the chair.
Involvement in the internationalisation of the department, in the development of
health-related courses and in academic self-governance are all part of the remit.
A commitment to participation in the transfer of theory and practice to the regional
healthcare system as well as to network building is also expected.
Candidates will be expected to hold a university degree in Human Medicine plus an
additional qualification in Social Medicine or a further / supplementary degree in the
field of Public Health, a relevant doctorate and corresponding practical and teaching
experience in the fields of social epidemiology, health reporting and healthcare provision.
Experience in cooperation projects is desirable. The international orientation of the
course requires candidates to be able to demonstrate excellent English language skills.
General Conditions of Employment:
The conditions of employment for professors are contained in § 35 of the Higher
Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA) dated 05.05.2004 and most recently
amended by the Act Amending the Provisions of Higher Education Law dated 26.07.2010
(official gazette 19/2010).
The ability to conduct scientific work must have been demonstrated by the conferral
of a doctorate. In particular, for professors in universities of applied sciences, it is the
case that in accordance with § 35 para. 2 no. 4b (HSG LSA), specific achievements in
the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods must have been
demonstrated in professional practice of several years‘ duration, of which at least
three years must have been outside the higher education sphere. Remuneration is in
accordance with W2 of Remuneration Order W from the Act Reforming Remuneration
Law in the State of Saxony-Anhalt (BesNeuRG LSA, official gazette 04/2011) as amended.
A further requirement is that professors should be prepared to take on teaching
responsibilities in their subject area on other courses at the university. A commitment
to technology and knowledge transfer and university self-governance is also expected.
Professors should be prepared to reside within the university catchment area.
Subject to fulfilment of the requirements, the successful candidate would be appointed
to the rank of civil servant with unlimited tenure or alternatively to an unlimited
employment relationship under private law, in accordance with § 38 para. 1 line 9 HSG LSA.
