Within the scope of its strategic planning, the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) aims to consistently advance its core research focuses neurosciences, cardiovascular medicine and oncology by integrating approaches from both translational and systems medicine. On the Göttingen Campus, the UMG is tightly connected with the institutes of natural and biological sciences of the university as well as with the non-university institutions.
The Institute of Human Genetics of the UMG invites applications for a
(Pay grade W2, limited time)
to be filled as soon as possible. The position will in the first instance be appointed until the end of 2024 with BMBF funding of the DZHK site Göttingen.
The applicant is expected to have a demonstrated record of significant research into NGS-based identification of disease-related genes and mutation profiles, functional characterization of hereditary mutations and generation of iPSC-based genome editing in cellular systems. The applicant is further expected to be proficient in the standard methods of human genetics research. This opportunity addresses both natural scientists and physicians with an appropriate scientific profile.
The candidate should be nationally and internationally renowned and have an outstanding record of publications on research into the genetic basis and molecular pathogenesis of heart and/or brain diseases. A further prerequisite is experience in conducting whole genome and exome sequencing and in analyzing and interpreting generated NGS data. With this expertise, the successful candidate will contribute significantly to the further development of the UMG research focus of cardiovascular medicine. Special emphasis will be placed on the cooperation with the Heart Center Göttingen as well as with partners at the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK).
The incumbent will teach courses in human medicine studies and the degree programs Molecular Medicine and Cardiovascular Science. Dedication to implementing innovative teaching concepts is expected. Additional expectations include experience in the acquisition of competitive external funding and international networking within the research community.
Prerequisite for the appointment is a habilitation or equivalent scientific qualification as well as experience in teaching.
Further requirements for the appointment of university professors are laid out in the current version of § 25 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Lower Saxony. The UMG reserves the right of appointment.
