Professor in "Digital Farm Management"
(salary group W 2, tenured position)
expected to start in the winter semester 2020 / 2021 or commencing as soon as possible.
Responsibilities in Teaching and Research:
Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences seeks to appoint a candidate for a professorship, which involves a high proportion of research. In practice, this means that the position entails a reduced teaching load, which may amount to a maximum of 50% of regular teaching duties. The reduced teaching load is initially limited to a period of five years with the option of a further extension period.
We are looking for a professor who will give lectures and tutorials - partly in a digital format - on Smart Farming with a strong focus on Data Management in farming operations. The ability to present and explain existing digital tools for agricultural businesses, to evaluate these tools with regard to their suitability for user-oriented management and possibly contribute to their further development is at the core of the responsibilities of the professorship. The successful candidate will introduce these topics into teaching both in the undergraduate degree programs as well as in the postgraduate study programs at our university.
Agricultural production has recently witnessed the introduction and establishment of many digital tools for controlling and management. We therefore aim to recruit an expert with the ability to connect and further advance the different aspects of digital farm management in the area of Precision Agriculture with the goal of developing an overall operational approach to farm management. For this purpose, the university cooperates with a number of institutions, corporate partners as well as associations in the fields of agricultural production and digital farm management. We expect the appointee to advance the activities and to shape the further development of the university's new Competence Centre for Digital Agriculture in a significant, innovative and forward-looking way. The future professor will also engage in existing cooperation, further expand partnership and collaboration initiatives, and represent the interests of the university to the public. In addition, the appointee is required to submit evidence of the successful acquisition of third-party funded research projects.
The university expects the successful candidate to play an active role in the further development of applied research. Responsibilities of the professorship furthermore include the supervision of internships, project papers and theses, teaching in English as well as participating in academic self-administration. Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences is looking for an individual with a university degree in agricultural sciences or horticulture. We expect the successful applicant to have gained several years of professional experience in a leading role in a company, an association or in a research institution with close ties to the field of agriculture. In addition, we expect you to have a successful track record in publishing the results of applied research and in securing and carrying out third-party funded research projects.

particular ability for scientific and scholarly work as proven by a doctoral degree or comparable academic qualification in a relevant discipline. In case an applicant wishes to make a claim for the recognition of comparable academic qualifications, a formal assessment evaluating the equivalence of scientific and scholarly work in relation to a doctoral degree must be submitted (in German: "Gutachten über promotionsadäquate Leistungen").
We furthermore require expertise in the application or development of scientific findings and methods obtained during a period of at least five years of professional experience after graduation with a first degree of which at least three years must be in a field outside university. Professional work experience, which an applicant has gained during a period of preparatory service (in German: "Referendariat") or in a position as a member of academic or artistic staff at a university (m/f/x), may be considered for a maximum period of two years. Applicants may submit proof of professional experience outside academia by providing documentation that for a period of at least five years a considerable part of professional work was carried out under a cooperation agreement between a university and external partners in business, associations or the NGO sector.
