Deadline for applications(58 days ago)
Due to success within the "Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses" (German tenure track programme), the Bielefeld School of Public Health (Faculty of Health Sciences) at Bielefeld University/Germany announces an opening for either a
W1 Professorship with Tenure Track to W3 or a W2 Temporary Professorship with Tenure Track to W3 for Health Communication
to be filled by October 1, 2020.
The candidate will represent health communication in research and academic teaching (Bachelor in Health Communication, Master in Public Health, both taught in German; PhD in Public Health). The position is attached to the Department of Prevention and Health Promotion (AG4). Excellent German language competencies are required.
Successful candidates have expertise in communication sciences with a focus on topics relevant to health sciences and which relate to research topics of the School of Public Health and/or Bielefeld University. We expect substantial, public-health-related research experience using qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods designs in the fields of health promotion and prevention.
All applicants have demonstrated their research experience through relevant, as far as possible international scientific publications and through independent project acquisitions. Additional scientific achievements with a clear public health relation as well as extensive experience in academic teaching are required for the W2 professorship. International, interdisciplinary cooperation experiences are an advantage.
The teaching load consists of a total of nine (9) hours of class instruction per week in accordance with § 3 para. 1 no. 1 LVV. Requirements for appointment are regulated by § 36 Higher Education Act [HG]).
In the case of an appointment to a W1 professorship, the post is limited to a period of three years with a further three-year option depending on a positive interim evaluation. A positive tenure evaluation in the final year will then lead to a W3 professorship. The W2 appointment is limited to five years with a target agreement being formulated after the appointment. A positive evaluation in the final year will then lead to a W3 professorship. The interim/tenure evaluations are regulated in the statutes for W1 professorships with tenure track/W2 professorships with tenure track.
W1/W2 tenure tracks are a firmly established equal-opportunity employment variant at Bielefeld University. Tenure track professors are offered a target-group-specific personnel development programme providing support when first coming to Bielefeld, in preparing for the interim evaluation, in preparing for the tenure evaluation, and in organizing – after a positive evaluation – the transitional phase to a W3 professorship.
Applications should be submitted with the usual materials (CV, list of publications with the ten most important highlighted, teaching record, Documentation of empirical research experiences) and also include a two-page document detailing the candidate‘s plans for research and teaching in written form as well as per electronic transfer (all in one pdf document) to the following address by September 18, 2019:
Bielefeld University has received a number of awards for its achievements in the provision of equal opportunity and has been recognized as a family-friendly university. The university welcomes applications from women. This is particularly true with regard both to academic and technical posts as well as positions in Information Technology and Craft. Applications are handled according to the state‘s equal opportunity statutes. Applications from suitably qualified handicapped and severely handicapped persons are explicitly encouraged.
