Kühne Logistics University (KLU) in Hamburg, Germany seeks applications from qualified candidates in Engineering with an area of specialization which lends itself to scientific collaboration with faculty in logistics and/or management for a position of Professor (Open Rank) beginning any time in the year 2022. This new faculty position at KLU in Hamburg will typically be initially for a 3-year period and be renewable for another 3 years, after which the faculty member will be up for tenure. These times are typically shortened if the initial appointment is at the Associate of Full Professor level.
Candidates will have a PhD in industrial engineering, production engineering or a related field, with a demonstrated ability to teach in a business school setting. They will also have significant experience in acquiring 3rd party research funding and be able to bring previously acquired research funding from their previous institution to KLU. Such 3rd party funding should be for topics relevant to logistics.
Although not a requirement, some knowledge of the German language would be an asset.
Candidates should combine an understanding of relevant practical problems with inspiring teaching, practical research and the willingness to contribute to institution building.
The successful candidate will
acquire a significant amount of external research funding for projects and build up a strong network within industry and academia to apply for national and international research grants, and be willing to assist others at KLU in acquiring funds from such sources,
helping build up KLU’s PhD program through the staff hired on projects,
publish their work in a manner which is appropriate for their specific field of research, preferable in collaboration with members of KLU’s faculty,
complement the research activity at KLU with the objective of strengthening the institution’s reputation in practice,
collaborate further with industry internationally and within the Hamburg Logistics Professorium,
teach in KLU’s degree programs as well as develop and deliver programs in KLU Executive Education,
contribute to institution building,
KLU expects the new professor to collaborate intensively at the institutional level with an engineering school, in particular with respect to the use of lab space. KLU’s teaching requirements are moderate, with about three quarter-length courses as the nominal load, and may include teaching at the undergraduate, master and PhD level, as well as executive education. Language of instruction is English.
