The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for up to three positions as
Professor in »Cancer Research«
to begin at the earliest possible date; appointment as Full Professor (W3) or Associate Professor (W3) or Tenure Track Assistant Professor (W2 position with tenure track to W3). In the event of appointment as W2 professor, the position will be funded by the Federal Government Tenure Track program. The appointment as Full Professor in an innovative research area, complementary to the established research areas at the TUM School of Medicine, will qualify for a permanent membership as one out of four TranslaTUM focus group leader.
The professorships belong to the TUM School of Medicine, one of Germany's top medical schools in research and in teaching with a strong focus on interdisciplinary and translational cancer research. TranslaTUM (center for translational cancer research), three collaborative research centers focusing on cancer immunology, diagnostics and therapy, close interaction with the Comprehensive Cancer Center Munich (CCCM), the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) as well as with TUM's academic engineering and life science departments promote an excellent scientific environment.
Responsibilities of the positions include research and teaching, as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. The teaching load includes courses in the subject area and the basic courses offered by the school as well as courses for other academic TUM departments.
We seek to appoint international experts and emerging leaders in their field focusing on one of the following aspects: Translational Thoracic Oncology • Translational Pancreatic Cancer Research • Experimental Cancer Immunology • Experimental Cancer Biology.
We are looking for candidates with a university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching relevant to their career level in an internationally recognized scientific environment. Successful candidates show pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English. Substantial research experience abroad is expected. Moreover, candidates should possess a proven ability to acquire third-party funding for cooperative research projects (e.g. DFG, EU, BMBF) and - depending on the career level - to lead such projects. A successful application for an advanced personal research fellowship (e.g. Heisenberg, ERC) is desired. A cancer-related medical board certification will enable successful applicants to assume duties in a relevant department or clinic at TUM university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar.
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track faculty from Assistant
Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor. The regulations of the TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System apply.
