W2 Tenure Track Assistant Professor (with tenure track to W3) or W3 Associate/Full Professor, to begin as soon as possible.
Scientific environment
The professorship belongs to the TUM Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability. The Straubing Campus provides a dynamic academic environment with a rapidly growing number of faculty, students and staff, as well as laboratory and research facilities. Our aim is to make the campus the leading European center in the field of bioeconomy focusing on biomass utilization for chemical and material use, on environmentally sound biotechnological and chemical conversion technologies, related economic, social and political aspects and frameworks. The research and teaching activities benefit from the scientific environment of the TUM departments, all of which have potential and promising cross-references to the field of bioeconomy.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of TUM professors include research, teaching and the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of materials science and engineering of biogenic materials, smart biogenic materials, (bio-)electrical, (bio-)optical, (bio-)mechanical or biomedical functional materials.
The teaching load includes courses in the university's bachelor and master programs explicitly in the newly established interdisciplinary program Biogenic Materials as well as in the programs Renewable Resources, Chemical Biotechnology, and in the joint master program Biomass Technology (together with BOKU Vienna).
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, regarding the relevant career level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected. Moreover, candidates should possess a full commitment to do interdisciplinary research, a proven ability to gain and to lead cooperative research projects and to attracting third-party funding (DFG, EU, AiF, BMBF), and a proven ability to develop strategic concept for advanced materials development from renewable resources.
