The Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics (TFD) invites applications for a
Postdoc Position (f/m) with Focus on Scale-Resolving Simulations & CFD Development
(Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100 %)
to be appointed as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to 5 years. A habilitation is possible.
The Post-Doctoral position is part of the junior research group Multiphysics of Turbulent Flows which models the influence of
turbulence and transitional flows on the aerodynamics of turbomachinery. The group focuses on the investigation of the physics
of turbulence using scale-resolving numerical methods (DNS, LES) and on the application of this knowledge to the development of
physical RANS models for the CFD code TRACE. The development of TRACE is conducted in close cooperation with the German Aerospace
Center (DLR), MTU Aero Engines AG, and university partners. Within the cooperation on TRACE, TFD coordinates the two-equation
RANS-model development of all partners and assures consistent quality of the models.
Responsibilities and duties
The Post-Doc will contribute to collaborative research projects by investigating turbulent and transitional flows over rough
surfaces with scale-resolving simulations. Contributions are expected to the development of the institute's scientific agenda
through high quality international scientific publications and through raising third-party funding. The Post-doc will be responsible
for setting up a quality assessment process for the RANS model development in close accordance with the partners, its implementation,
and its execution. In the medium-term taking responsibility for management tasks in the institute is possible.
Employment conditions
The position requires a relevant doctoral degree and the ability to conduct high-level scientific research on the specified subject.
A proven track record in international scientific publishing is especially valued. Applicants should have documented experience in
the development of CFD-methods. A strong background in the pyhsics of turbulent flows and in scale-resolving methods will be a plus.
The duties of the Post-Doc require excellent communicative skills and cooperative work habits. Knowledge of the German language is
beneficial. Very good knowledge of the English language is expected.
This position is only open to applicants who are citizens of an EU or NATO member state.
The Post-Doc will be part of a young and motivated research team with a coherent scientific agenda in turbulence research and reduced-order model
development for turbomachinery applications. Several compressor and turbine test rigs provide ample opportunities for model validation under realistic
conditions at TFD and particularly at the new laboratory on "Dynamics of Energy Conversion" to be commissioned in 2019. We offer a unique mixture
of publicly funded basic research and a close collaboration with industrial partners.
Part-time employment is possible.
As an equal opportunities employer, Leibniz Universität Hannover intends to promote women and men in the context of statutory requirements.
For this reason suitably qualified women are specifically invited to apply. Equally qualified applicants with disabilities will be given preferential treatment.
