Ph.D. Positions and Postdoctoral Fellows (m/f/d)
in Halle (Saale)
Are you interested in a unique research experience that cuts across many fields of engineering and science with the aim of creating transformative impact in society through extraordinary technologies? If yes, we would like to hear from you!
The Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics, Halle, Germany, Department of Nanophotonics, Integration, and Neural Technology, is recruiting Ph.D. students and Postdoctoral Fellows. Our new department is initiating research programs on devices and microsystems for future computing and brain activity mapping technologies. We are launching exciting interdisciplinary research projects in:
Nanotechnology-enabled brain implants that combine multiple sensing/stimulation modalities in a single package for neuroscience and brain-computer interfaces
Photonic integrated circuits in the visible spectrum for imaging, displays, sensing, and computing
Accelerators for machine learning and neuromorphic computing using phase-change materials
3D neural cell cultures
We are recruiting Ph.D. students and Postdoctoral Fellows for the above projects. The ideal candidate has an academic background in engineering (electrical, biomedical, mechanical), applied physics, neurobiology or a related discipline. He/she should also have strong interests in and preparation for one or more of the topics below:
Simulation, design, nanofabrication, and measurement of photonic and other microtechnology devices (e.g., microfluidics, microelectronics)
Culturing and 3D printing neural tissues and organoids
Design, fabrication, and characterization (in vitro and in vivo) of brain implants
If you are motivated by grand challenges and are interested in joining our effort, please visit
We offer the opportunity to work at the forefront of scientific research with an incredible team of highly motivated, smart, and fun people from around the world. You will also have the chance to gain exposure to a wide network of international collaborators from different disciplines. Our team members and collaborators have backgrounds that range from neuroscience and neuromedicine to photonics, applied physics, electronics, and mechanical engineering, and more! English is the working language at the institute. If you are coming from abroad, we will do our best to ensure your transition will be as smooth as possible.
The Max Planck Society aims to employ more persons with disabilities. Applications from persons with disabilities are encouraged. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in areas where they are underrepresented and therefore encourages women to apply.
