Who we are...
Wind energy is our primary focus. Our institute is home to more than 250 employees and students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development. We achieve this with a combination of an internationally unique testing infrastructure and extensive methods expertise in the fields of the reliability and validation of wind turbines.
The duties awaiting you...
You will support the group »Blade Test« with the performance of large-scale tests (90-m-long rotor blades are, after all, GIANT structural bodies). You will be responsible for optimizing the numerical test procedures. You will achieve this by developing simulation models and methods for the performance of static and dynamic calculations with FEM. To this end, you will work closely together with colleagues performing the tests to be able to validate your models on the basis of real results. Your day-to-day work will be very varied, as you will also undertake research to remain at the cutting edge of developments. At the same time, you will also work on various research and industry projects, submit research applications, and write project reports (yes, that is part of the job, too).

Have you completed an Engineering degree?
Are you well versed in numerical mechanics and the finite element method? Have you already garnered experience in the use of a commercial FE solver, ideally ANSYS? It would be great if you are also comfortable working with a programming language. Maybe you have even already worked in the industrial sector? That would be great, but not necessary as we also offer the chance to get your career started with us. You will present your results to your team and our customers as well as at conferences. This is not a problem for you in both English and German. If you are interested in doing a Ph.D. we can create the opportunities for you and support you on your way.

We have a flextime and core time system which allows us to be very flexible. And even though work is very important to us, at IWES, you always have time for your family and yourself, too.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits are based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
The working time consists of 39 hours per week.
The position is initially limited to 3 years.
