Max Planck Institute for Biological CyberneticsTübingen
The Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics is studying signal and information processing in the
brain. The scientists aim to determine which signals and processes are responsible for creating a coherent
percept of our environment and for eliciting the appropriate behavior. Scientists of three departments and
several research groups are working towards answering fundamental questions about processing in the
brain, using different approaches and methods.
The Department of Sensory and Sensorimotor Systems
Li Zhaoping is the head of the department of Sensory and Sensorimotor Systems within the MPI for Biological
Cybernetics and a professor at the University of Tubingen. Her research aims to discover and understand
how the brain receives and processes the sensory input, e.g., visual inputs, and use the information
to direct movements of the limbs and other body parts and make cognitive decisions. She and her team
use both theoretical and experimental approaches, including human psychophysics and animal behavior,
imaging, and electrophysiology.
For the development of software/hardware for carrying out scientific experiments (we use equipment for
visual and other sensory displays, for eye tracking, EEG measurements, 3D display etc.) we are looking

Laboratory Technician/Research Assistant with university degree
(Computer Science, Engineering, or Physics)
Your tasks include:1. Processing research projects
Working in cooperation with the scientific staff in various research areas, in particular in visual psychophysics
or human behavior experiments.
2. Programming and software/hardware support
Development of new applications for scientific measurement and evaluation methods in the field of human
behavioral experiments and elaboration of fundamental approaches for sensory (e.g., visual) display,
human behavioral data acquisition and data processing.
Programming of scripts and programs (e.g., C,C++, C#, matlab) for real-time graphics applications (e.g.,
real-time 3D computer graphics, Unity game engine) for carrying out experiments.
Connection of new graphics hardware and the software tools used by the department.
Conception and selection of commercial programs and equipment for use for our research.
We expect a university degree as well as a very good command of English and a high degree of responsibility,
commitment, flexibility, resilience and the ability to work in a team on several projects.
Good knowledge of C++/C# and experience with the development of real-time graphics and network applications
are required. Knowledge in virtual reality applications and interest in scientific work are desired.

experience in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector (TVöD-Bund). The social
