Junior Professorship for
„Digital Media and Computation“
from 01.04.2019. This is a W2 tenure track position. In order to verify whether the individual performance meets the requirements of a permanent employment, an evaluation process will be opened not later than after five years of service. The professorship will be funded by the „Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses.“ The aim of the programme is to pave the way for a secure career in academia for early stage researchers. Tenure track professors at the HU Berlin are expected to carry out research and teach, as well as be active on various university committees and acquire leadership and management skills. The concrete requirements out of the framework catalogue [https://hu.berlin/tenuretrack_katalog] will be specified in the course of the appointment process.
The research focus of this position will be the epistemological and technical analysis of digital media, with a particular focus on "computing" as a model structure of contemporary and future media cultures. Applicants should demonstrate excellent research expertise in at least one of the fields of physical computation, critical code studies, media archaeology, software studies and/or Internet studies. In accordance with the specific profile of the Department of Musicology and Media Studies at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative research at the intersection of digital media studies and sound studies and to contribute to the further development of the department‘s practice-based institutions for teaching and research (Media Archaeological Fund, Signals Laboratory) in the realm of digital media.
