The Faculty of Theology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg seeks to fill the following
position by 1 October 2021:
Junior Professor (W1 with Tenure-Track to W2)
“History of Christianity
with Specialization in Orthodoxy” (d-m-f)
This Junior Professorship (W1) with tenure-track to W2 is funded by the federal-state program
to promote young academics (tenure-track program) and particularly aims to support young
researchers in their early career phase (up to four years after the doctorate).
The teaching and research profile of the applicant shows a strong focus on the History of
Global Christianity and the applicant will be expected to demonstrate expertise in the entire
field at the time of tenure. He/she is especially qualified in the study of the history and the
present state of Global Orthodoxy and the Eastern Churches and is proficient in the relevant
languages. He/she is capable of building interdisciplinary and international connections in
the research area that is vital to the Theological Faculty in Halle and is qualified to participate
in the courses of study and examinations offered at the Faculty of Theology. The ability to teach
in the German language is expected at the time of the evaluation of the Junior Professorship
at the latest after three years. Additional duties to be carried out derive from § 34 of the Higher
Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG-LSA – Hochschulgesetz des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt).
Persons who apply must meet the employment requirements pursuant to §40 HSG LSA.
The main job requirements include a relevant and outstanding doctorate and demonstrated
teaching abilities. Generally, not more than six years should have elapsed between the last
doctoral examination and the date of the application for a junior professorship in accordance
with §40 HSG-LSA.
