Junior Professorship - salary grade W1
with W3 tenure-track option in the field of "Mathematics - Discrete Optimization".
With this position, TU Berlin especially addresses and aims to promote young scientists. For that reason, this position will be a temporary W1 junior professorship with an evaluation after 3 years. In case of a second successful tenure-track evaluation after 6 years, this position will lead to a permanent W3 professorship.

Working field: The position requires research and teaching and an internationally visible profile in the area of Discrete Optimization.
The research focus of the position is expected to be a branch of Discrete Optimization. Furthermore, cooperations with the current professors at the Institute of Mathematics as well as participation in existing and future collaborative research projects of all mathematical institutes in Berlin (Research Center MATHEON, Einstein Center for Mathematics Berlin, Berlin Mathematical School etc.) are expected.
Teaching will be required in all mathematical degree programs (including undergraduate), in particular in the area of algorithmic discrete mathematics, and in the service teaching of mathematics for other programs. Teaching requirements shall be met in German and English. Candidates are expected to supervise students' theses on bachelor, master and PhD level as well as to participate in the academic administration of the university.
Requirements: Candidates must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the junior professor level in compliance with § 102a BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act). These include a completed degree in mathematics or a comparable subject, a doctorate in mathematics or a comparable subject, a particular qualification for academic work usually attested by the excellent quality of a doctorate, and pedagogical aptitude, demonstrated by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB Website, quick access 144242).
Internationally visible research results in the area of Discrete Optimization have to be proven through relevant publications. Experiences in acquiring and carrying out projects and project alliances involving third-party funding are desirable.
