Junior Professorship in Biochemistry / Chemical Biology / Molecular Cell Biology focusing on intracellular signal transduction

The successful applicant will assume responsibilities in research and teaching in the area named above as well as manage a Junior Research Group.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 102a of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).
The successful candidate will have an excellent interdisciplinary research profile at the intersection of Biology and Chemistry proven
through high-level publications. She or he will have a record of excellence in university teaching (preferably internationally), and
have experience with third party funding.
The appointee will conduct research in the area of manipulation of intracellular signaling events. She or he will be expected to establish
and lead a high-performance research group at the Institute for Chemistry and Biochemistry. The junior professor will be expected to develop
projects that contribute to the newly established DFG-funded Transregio 186 Molecular Switches in the Spatio-Temporal Control of
Cellular Signal Transmission. Areas of special interest include, but are not limited to: development and use of switchable second
messengers; the utilization of non-natural amino acids and/or protein ligation techniques for the study of intracellular signaling; or
the development and cellular application of optogenetic strategies to acutely manipulate protein function. Furthermore, the selectee
will also have teaching responsibilities for students of Biochemistry and will successfully acquire third party funding.
The junior professor will be appointed as a civil servant for an initial period of three years. Reappointment is contingent upon positive
evaluation of performance and may be extended for three more years.
