Junior Professorship (W 1)
with Tenure Track (W 2)
for the Institute of for Information Science and Natural Language Processing. The position is open from October 2020.
This professorship is one of five professorships the Stiftung Universität Hildesheim has been granted by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States. It specifically targets researchers at an early stage in their academic career.
Research and teaching in the field of methods, procedures, tools, research workflows and research process documentation for the analysis and interpretation of texts, images and/or multimodal documents;
Contributions to the institute's lines of research, in particular in computational linguistics, corpus linguistics or electronic resources:
Contributions to teaching in the study programs Internationales Informationsmanagement etc., but also cooperation with the humanities, social sciences and/or cultural sciences;
Supervision of doctoral students;
Contributions to the university's self administration and to the development of the institute's study programs;
Cooperation with the Central for Digital Change and the Center for Diversity, Democracy and Inclusion in Education (ZBI)
The successful candidate will teach in both German and English. Candidates who are not sufficiently fluent in German will initially be assigned to teach in English but should be willing to acquire the skills necessary to lecture in German within three years.
Very good doctoral thesis in the field of the Digital Humanities or in a research area relevant for DH work, such as Computational Linguistics, Text Technology, Information Science, Linguistics or Literary Studies, Media Studies, Computer Science
Completed university degree
Experience in implementing and evaluating DH-oriented tools and procedures, e.g. from Machine Learning, Computational Linguistics or Social Media Analysis
Experience with and critical reflexion on DH methods as well as knowledge of the traditions of at least one field from the Humanities, Social or Cultural Sciences (e.g. from earlier projects) is a plus
Active and passive knowledge of German and English including the ability to publish in either language; readiness to work with other languages or with multilingual research topics
Willingness to participate in trainings concerning university didactics.
Willingness to further develop any necessary social and leadership skills
The requirements for employment listed in § 30 of the Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz (University Law of the State of Lower Saxony) apply. In the third year of employment, an interim evaluation is made. This serves as the basis for the decision as to whether an extension for a further three years will be granted to the candidate. A final evaluation is held no later than the sixth year of employment. Dependent on the results, a decision will be reached as to whether the candidate will be given tenure at W 2 level. The tenure procedures are regulated in the Ordnung zur Gewährung einer Professur auf Lebenszeit im Tenure-Track Verfahren an der Universität Hildesheim.
