Published(454 days ago)
Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum / German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ)Heidelberg
The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany.
With approximately 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.
The Management Board is seeking a
Junior Group leader position on "Tumor Immunology"
Our mission is to unravel the causes and mechanisms underlying cancer development and progression and, based on innovative research, develop novel
strategies for the diagnosis, early detection, prevention and treatment of cancer. Located on the biomedical campus in Heidelberg, the DKFZ is embedded
in a highly attractive scientific environment offering a broad spectrum of opportunities for collaborations. Moreover, we provide excellent research
conditions, an international and collegial research environment and access to state-of-the-art core facilities. To efficiently translate novel
findings from basic science into the clinic, the DKFZ, in partnership with leading university medical centers, has established the National
Center for Tumor Diseases and the German Cancer Consortium.
We are currently seeking an outstanding researcher with an excellent scientific track record as head of an independent junior research group (equivalent
to an appointment at the assistant professor level) in the field of “Tumor Immunology”. The candidate should apply and develop
innovative approaches to investigate basic mechanisms for the role of the immune system in tumor detection and defense. Of particular interest are the
induction and maintenance of anti-tumor responses also in relation to checkpoint inhibitors, the study of underlying mechanisms leading to variability
of anti-tumor responses between individuals, the role of the microbiome or the role of immunological aging processes in tumor defense. An emphasis should
be placed on the study of human immune responses or the development and application of clinically relevant models as the basis for translation into clinical
application. Independent junior research groups will be established for an initial period of 6 years with a tenure option after review. Junior research
groups are funded at an internationally competitive level.
Eligible applicants are scientists (PhD, MD or MD-PhD degree) with more than 2 and less than 6 years of postdoctoral experience at the time of application
(which can be extended for child-rearing periods). Applicants must have international research experience and an outstanding scientific track record.
The ideal candidates are expected to pursue highly innovative research projects at the frontiers of cancer research and should be able to successfully raise extramural funding.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications, summary of past research and future plans (max. 5 pages) and names and addresses
of two to three references using our online application portal (www.dkfz.de/jobs).
Applications will be preselected and short-listed candidates will be invited to the DKFZ to present and discuss their research and future plans.
The position is limited to 6 years. The position can in principle be part-time.
