The Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) (mpipz.mpg.de/en) is one of the world’s premier sites for research into fundamental processes in plant biology. Head of Public Relations and Public Outreach (m/f/d)
Main responsibilities include
With input from MPIPZ directors and the institute’s scientific coordinator, formulating and implementing coherent and holistic outreach concepts for MPIPZ plant science research at local, national and international levels
Highlighting research news from the institute in the form of press releases, through social media and other avenues, in close collaboration with scientists and departmental scientific project managers
Close coordination of MPIPZ outreach activities with the University of Cologne and Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf in the context of the Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences (CEPLAS)
Fundraising to support projects that promote knowledge and understanding of plant research among the public in a target group-oriented manner
This position is suitable for a person who has both first-hand research experience as well as experience in science communication and who is passionate about developing innovative approaches for communicating plant science to diverse target audiences. Excellent communication skills in English and proficiency in computer applications (MS office, internet, databases, content management systems) are essential as are knowledge of the German research landscape and proficiency in the German language. The ideal candidate works proactively, is solution-oriented and flexible in their thinking, as well as adept at efficiently prioritizing their tasks. This full-time position is available immediately, and the initial contract is for two years with the possibility of an extension. Salary and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations of the German TVöD Bund (salary agreement for public service employees).
