Full Professor (W3) in Methods of Empirical Social Research (tenured)
The position is available as of April 2019 or based on mutual agreement.
The University of Cologne is one of Germany‘s leading research universities and part of the Excellence Initiative. Its Faculty of Management, Economics, and Social Sciences is consistently ranked among the top schools in research and teaching. The Faculty counts more than 100 professors and 250 researchers. The Institute of Sociology and Social Psychology (ISS) was established in 1919 as the first of its kind in Germany and has developed a strong tradition in theory-based empirical research ever since.
Candidates should have a strong background in quantitative methods and statistics. A focus on the analysis of longitudinal data and modern methods of causal inference is particularly welcome. A substantial track record of research published in leading journals and an active research program are expected. Successful candidates will contribute to the Key Research Profile Area Demography and Social Inequality. International experience, such as a Ph.D. from a leading international university or other long-term international teaching or research experience is highly appreciated.
Successful applicants should demonstrate excellent teaching skills and contribute to the ongoing development of the faculty‘s teaching program. Candidates will offer courses in German and English at B.Sc. and M.Sc. levels and participate in the Cologne Graduate School in Management, Economics and Social Sciences (CGS).
Applicants will be hired in accordance with § 36 of the University Law of the State of North-Rhine Westphalia.
