Full Professorship in Infectious Diseases

The employment occurs as a professor with an employment contract in accordance with § 102 Abs. 5 BerlHG.

It is planned to bring together and integrate bench-based research of the Clinic mentioned below into a jointly operated “Department of Immunology“. The successful candidates will be founding Directors of the “Department of Immunology“ at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. As part of the application, each candidate should explicitly state her/his vision for the “Department of Immunology“ including research topics, required technologies and strategies for career development of personnel and to present it in a separate section in the application documents.

The Division for Pneumology is represented by a further Full Professorship (tenured) with a Management Function.

The further holder is expected to fulfil the following responsibilities and criteria:
  • Responsibility for Infectious Diseases in Research, Teaching and Patient Care at the Campuses Mitte and Virchow Clinic of the Charité
  • Management of a Division for Infectious Diseases within the Department of Infectious Diseases and Respiratory Medicine at the Charité
  • Excellent clinical skills in the entire field of Infectious Disease, Experience in dealing with highly contagious pathogens as well as proven management skills in personnel and financial management of a large area of responsibility
  • Proof of outstanding research achievements of infectious immunology and successful attainment of competitive third-party funding for research projects
  • Development of a future-oriented scientific concept in the field of Infectious Disease especially (but not exclusively) lung and respiratory system
  • Experience and commitment in teaching, excellent didactic skills and willingness to actively participate in the design of the model study programme in medicine. Teaching obligations are based on the Teaching Obligation Ordinance for Berlin (LVVO).
  • Integration in relevant research areas of the Charité (www.charite.de) and in interfaculty research networks/Graduate Schools as well as research projects of the CharitéCenter 12 and Berlin Institute of Health (BIH)
  • Cooperation with the preclinical and clinical facilities of the Charité and other institutions in Berlin and Brandenburg, especially the DRFZ, the Experimental and Clinical Research Center (ECRC), the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) and the infection oriented Max Planck Institutes (for example MPI for Infection Biology or MPI of Colloids and Interfaces)
  • Consideration of gender and diversity both in terms of research content and personnel
The Charité seek to fill this position with a nationally and internationally renowned and scientifically excellent and clinically proven personality, who will structurally develop the clinical and scientific activities in the field of Infectious Disease especially Translational Infectious Immunology and further strengthen the future-oriented profile in this area.

Qualifications:
According to the higher education act of Berlin for hiring professors (§ 100 BerlHG), the academic prerequisites for this position include either a professorship, junior professorship, postdoctoral lecturer qualification (habilitation), or equivalent scientific achievement including qualified teaching experience or a similar qualification. Furthermore, a completed university degree as well as doctorate (M.D.) in medicine as well as a completed specialization in “Internal Medicine” as well as a completed advanced training in “Infectious Disease” ((or compared specialization) is required. International applicants must have a German language diploma/certificate (according to the Conference of Ministers of Culture) at C2 level.

The responsibility of the management of the medical clinic within the professorship is regulated by a contract for chief physicians. The subject of the contract are the tasks associated with the management of the clinic, including the treatment of private patients. The previous right to liquidate will be replaced by performance-related remuneration with fixed and variable components.
