in Theoretical Physics of Condensed Matter

We are seeking a qualified applicant for teaching and research in the area of theoretical physics of condensed matter systems.

The starting date is 1 July 2019. The candidate should have proven accomplishments in quantum many-body physics. A focus on the development and application of tensor-network methods and on topological aspects of condensed matter systems is of particular interest. Applications of such concepts in quantum information science is desired. The work of the candidate should strengthen the collaborate research initiatives in condensed matter physics and quantum information sciences at RWTH Aachen University (in particular the graduate training group "Quantum Many-Body Methods in Condensed Matter Systems" and the cluster of excellence "Matter and Light for Quantum Computing"). Upon a successful performance evaluation, this tenure-track position will be continued as a W3- appointment after 5 years.

A doctoral degree is required; additionally, habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification or equivalent), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years. Participation in the teaching activities in theoretical physics on all levels is expected.
