Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

Qualified experts are invited to apply for the positions above, foreseen to represent the given fields in research and tea-ching.The starting date for both positions is as soon as possible.
Regarding the professorship High Voltage Equipment and Technology, recognized expertise in one or more of the following areas is expected:
  • Insulation systems for high-voltage technologies, in particular for HVDC applications,
  • AC and DC switch technologies,
  • monitoring, diagnosis and evaluation of high-voltage installations for asset management and
  • electric arcs and protective measures.
It is desirable to have materials science expertise in the field of insulation materials, as well as their incorporation into the research areas of energy technology.

A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching. Jointly with the Chair "Transmission Grids and Power Economics" of Prof. Albert Moser (previously known as "Power Systems and Power Economics", these two additional professorships will be integrated into the newly established "Institute of High Voltage Equipment and Grids, Digitalization and Power Economics", which will be managed collaboratively by all three professors.

The topic of energy is widely investigated at RWTH Aachen University, activities in this area will be further expanded. Currently, major challenges arise in the context of energy transition (e.g. CO 2 -neutral power supply system) and in the related requirements for novel technologies, e.g. for energy distribution and decentralization. Close collaboration with the other professors in the field of energy technology at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, as well as with RWTH Profile Area "Energy, Chemical & Process Engineering (ECPE)", Forschungscampus "Flexible Electrical Networks (FEN)" and the associated institute FGH e.V. will be expected. In addition to the above mentioned cooperation with the Fraunhofer Center, a contribution to the energy branch of Jülich-Aachen-Research-Alliance (JARA) would be desirable in order to strenghten this link.

The leverage of an interdisciplinary research culture is a main goal of RWTH Aachen University, therefore the willingness to interdisciplinary cooperation across faculty boundaries is required.

Active participation in teaching is expected, including development of innovative didactic concepts and new content. Herein, particular emphasis will be on the effects of electromagnetic fields of high-voltage equipment on humans and environment, and on the role of distributed grids in future energy systems for the two positions, respectively.
