to begin on 1 April 2021. The professorship is a tenured W3 position. The Full Professor will be appointed Chair of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine including neonatology at TUM's university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar, mainly located at Klinikum Schwabing - München Klinik gGmbH. The successful candidate is intended to be appointed as head physician of the Department of Pediatrics at the München Klinik with responsibilities in patient care and management at the München Klinik sites Schwabing and Harlaching.
The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Medicine, one of Germany's top medical schools in research and teaching, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary and translational research. The Comprehensive Cancer Center Munich (CCCM), TUM's Clusters of Excellence and collaborative research centers as well as close collaborations with TUM's natural and engineering sciences promote an excellent scientific environment. In addition, there are close collaborations with the other disciplines in the field of pediatric diseases.
The responsibilities of the position include research, teaching and patient care in the complete area of pediatric and adolescent medicine, as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. Expanding the clinical service for pediatrics and adolescent medicine by implementing clinical innovation is core responsibility of the professor to be appointed. The teaching load includes courses in the subject area and fundamentals courses offered by the department, as well as courses for other TUM departments.
We are looking for a high-profile candidate with an international reputation, who has demonstrated an outstanding academic record and an internationally recognized research program. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are prerequisites. Board certification in pediatric and adolescent medicine (Kinder- und Jugendmedizin) is required.
Substantial clinical and leadership competence as well as leadership quality, research experience abroad, and a proven ability to establish, acquire and lead competitive and cooperative research projects are required.
Candidates are expected to be fully committed to collaborate with scientists at the TUM School of Medicine, at the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar und at the German Heart Center Munich, as well as with scientist at other TUM schools and academic departments, and to participate in interdisciplinary research collaborations. Scientific participation in existing and future national and international pertinent research networks (e.g. future German Health Research Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine) are expected.

As a rule, the holder of this professorship is not employed as a "Beamter" under German law. The duties related to patient care as Director of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at TUM's university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar as well as head physician of the Department of Pediatrics at München Klinik, including the right to bill additional fees, are to be regulated separately in head physician contracts.
