The Helmholtz Association conducts top-level research to identify and explore the major challenges facing society, science and the economy. Its work is divided into six research fields. The Helmholtz Association brings together 18 scientific-technical and biological-medical research centres. With more than 38,700 employees and an annual budget of over 4 billion Euro, the Helmholtz Association is Germany's largest scientific organisation.
The Brussels Office of the Helmholtz Association provides information and support in all aspects of European research funding for both the scientists and the executive management of the Helmholtz research centres. Its goal is to facilitate their participation in EU research programmes. It also represents the interests of the Helmholtz Association at European level and prepares Helmholtz positions on European science policy.
The Helmholtz Association is recruiting a delegate in the field of Matter to start as soon as possible at its Brussels Office
in the field of Matter – in Brussels
You will represent the Helmholtz Association and its individual centres in the research field Matter in Europe and actively support their strategic positioning, for example through preparation of position papers and statements. You will build networks with relevant EU institutions (Commission and Parliament), inform the Helmholtz centres about new science policy developments and activities at European level and explore new opportunities.
You will analyse which European research programmes and activities are relevant to the profiles and interests of the centres and will inform and advise about relevant funding opportunities. You will support the centres prepare applications.
You will also be responsible for several cross-sectional tasks and represent the interests of the Helmholtz Association as a whole relating to horizontal research programmes and initiatives e.g. the European funding of research infrastructures.
You will build networks within the Helmholtz centres and the Helmholtz steering bodies active in your research field through regular strategic interaction with the management level, and through information and training events in the centres.
You have a postgraduate degree, preferably doctorate or equivalent, in a relevant field of natural science or engineering.
You have strong knowledge of European research funding and research policy, experience with preparation and implementation of European research projects and the desire to contribute to the development of the European research area.
You are used to conceptual and strategic thinking (for example, preparation of position statements) and to absorb new, complex information quickly and efficiently. You are highly flexible and are able to prioritize competing demands in a complex, rapidly changing environment. You have outstanding communication skills.
You have an excellent command of English. Your (oral and written) knowledge of German is very good. Some knowledge of French is a plus.
Some knowledge of Helmholtz Association and the German research landscape is a plus.
