THE MAX PLANCK SCHOOLS ARE A JOINT INITIATIVE BETWEEN
GERMAN UNIVERSITIES AND GERMAN RESEARCH ORGANIZATIONS.
By linking the dispersed excellence of German researchers in the fields of cognition, matter to life, and
photonics, the MAX PLANCK SCHOOLS explore new paths in postgraduate education in Germany.
A unique network of 50 outstanding scientists per school with strong connections to both
academia and industry forms the basis for a career-oriented education.
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The Max Planck Schools invite outstanding students holding a Bachelor‘s or Master‘s degree
(or equivalent) to the following postgraduate schools offering a comprehensive PhD program:
— Max Planck School of Cognition:
focusing on areas related to cognition such as linguistics, artificial intelligence, neurobiology,
cognitive neuroscience/neuroscience, mathematics, neurology, psychiatry, philosophy,
— Max Planck School Matter to Life:
focusing on areas related to chemistry, biochemistry, material sciences, molecular systems
engineering, physics, molecular cell biology, bioengineering or a related subject.
— Max Planck School of Photonics:
focusing on areas related to physics, engineering or any other area with a significant exposure
to photonic-related topics.

The Max Planck Schools invite highly talented Bachelor‘s or Master‘s graduates from all over
the world to apply to one of our competitive PhD programs in which you will become part of
