W3 professorship "Thermal Energy and Material Conversion"
INSTITUTE OF COMBUSTION AND POWER PLANT TECHNOLOGY | 1ST APRIL 2024 The University of Stuttgart is one of the leading technically oriented universities in Germany and located in one of Europe’s most vibrant high-tech and industrial areas. The university is a reliable employer, partner for technology transfer and it is committed to the interdisciplinary integration of engineering, natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences based on the fundamentals of cutting-edge research at a disciplinary level.
The person to be appointed should represent the field of thermal energy and material conversion in research and teaching, especially in connection with future renewable chemical energy carriers. The professorship is associated with the position of the scientific director of the combined heat and power plant at the University of Stuttgart.
Research is expected to focus on several of the following areas:
Thermal energy and material conversion technologies for electricity and heat generation and for industrial processes, focusing on
Processes and technologies for the use of chemical energy carriers in a renewable energy system (e.g. hydrogen, ammonia, e-methanol, e-methane and biomass)
Thermochemical gasification processes
Processes and technologies for the avoidance of CO2 emissions or for closed process control with regard to CO2, in particular
CO2 capture processes for integration into CO2 utilisation pathways (CCU)
Processes to avoid CO2 in energy-intense (high-temperature) processes in industry, e.g. through the use of alternative fuels and raw materials, integrated waste heat utilisation and CCS
In teaching, the field is to be represented in the German- and English-language degree programs of the faculty and in other degree programmes in which the faculty is involved. In particular,
participation in the study programs Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Chemical- and Bio-Engineering, WASTE (Air Quality Control, Solid Waste and Waste
Water Process Engineering) and Environmental Engineering is appreciated. International applicants are expected to be able to offer courses in German after a transition period of three years.
We are searching for an individual who is distinguished by high-ranked scientific publications or patents with international visibility. Strong technical and leadership experience in the field of energy and process technologies as well as teaching experience are expected.
For a qualitative assessment of your academic accomplishments, we kindly ask you to submit a short description of your three most important scientific achievements, which should be no longer than one page in total. Possible successes may include e.g. research, teaching, science and society, knowledge and technology transfer, inventions and patents, software development or spin-offs.
The requirements for employment listed in § 47 and § 50 Baden-Württemberg university law (LHG) apply.
Written applications with the usual documents (including curriculum vitae, copies of certificates, description of the three most important scientific achievements, list of publications, description of teaching activities, main research areas) and a fully completed applicant data sheet (
