W3 PROFESSORSHIP (M/F/D) FOR BIOCHEMISTRY
The Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum has a vacancy for a W3 Professorship in Biochemistry to be filled by 01 March 2023.
We are looking for an internationally visible researcher who will work experimentally on biochemical issues at the molecular level, preferably by studying molecular functions in neurocellular models. Areas of interest for this professorship could be in the field of dynamics and regulation of proteins, ligand-protein, RNA-protein, and/or protein-protein complexes. Preference will be given to candidates who will, in both research and teaching, advance the use and development of current biochemical and cell biological techniques in combination with approaches of chemical biology for the observation and functional analysis of physiologically relevant molecules to the level of single molecules, especially using modern fluorescence techniques. In this way, the professorship will strengthen the faculty's focus and activities in the study and modulation of bio-macromolecules. Compatibility within existing and planned research collaborations within the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry as well as with the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, the Research Department Neuroscience and the Cluster of Excellence RESOLV is expected.
It is assumed that the future position holder will be able to fully teach the Faculty‘s courses of Biochemistry in both German and English.
Positively evaluated junior professorships, habilitations or equivalent scientific achievements as well as evidence of particular suitability for academic teaching are required, together with a willingness to participate in academic self-administration.
A high level of commitment to teaching, evidence of successful acquisition of significant third-party funding, outstanding publication and lecture activity, international activity and experience, as well as a willingness to assume tasks within the academic self-administration of the university and the Department of Chemistry are required.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
Please send us your detailed scientific curriculum vitae, list of publications and lectures, proof of special suitability for academic teaching as well as a list of third-party funds acquired. Furthermore, we ask you for a one-page summary of your research interests and a bullet-point description of concrete cooperation opportunities within the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry. In addition, the Ruhr-Universität Bochum attaches particular importance to the quality of teaching. Teaching experience and ideas about teaching should be presented. Please contact Prof. Dr. Thomas Günther-Pomorski (bc2@rub.de) for further information.
