Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) is one of the leading research universities in Germany. As a reform-oriented campus university, it houses the

After its application to the federal-state programme for the promotion of early career researchers has been accepted, RUB is currently
implementing 18 new tenure-track professorships. Following a successful tenure evaluation, the respective tenure-track professor will
subsequently be awarded permanent tenure. Each applicant will be notified of the evaluation criteria upon receipt of application.
W1 (W2) TENURE-TRACK PROFESSORSHIP FOR EDUCATIONAL DATA SCIENCE
The Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Research at Ruhr University Bochum will be awarding a W1 (W2) tenure-track professorship for Educational
Data Science at the Institute of Educational Research which is expected to start on 1 October 2019.
The future tenure-track professor will be representing the field of Educational Data Science in education and research in adequate breadth and with an
interdisciplinary orientation. The candidate is expected to establish research concerning formal, non-formal and informal learning opportunities in the
area of Data Science and to refer it to theories of educational science. Likewise, the insights and outcomes of research on Educational Data Science are
to be used for further development of educational theories.
Furthermore, the applicant is supposed to teach courses in the B.A. and M.A. Educational Sciences programs as well as educational sciences courses in the
M.Ed. program. Contributions to the research priorities of the institute and the faculty are as much desired as the involvement into interdisciplinary
projects of the Professional School of Education and the Centre of Educational Studies, especially in the context of externally funded research proposals.
Additionally, the willingness to cooperate with further research departments of the university and the area of studies in general is required.
The candidate is renowned as expert due to her or his significant work on empirical research and theoretical reflection of usage and analysis of digital data with focus on education, and of digitality.
The candidate holds an outstanding doctoral degree in educational sciences or equivalent disciplines.
The candidate has provably profound knowledge of data-handling and data science.
The appointment requirements in accordance with § 36 ff. of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NW;
www.rub.de/appointments.) must be met.
Other mandatory requirements include:
Qualification for and deep commitment to academic teaching;
Willingness to engage with interdisciplinary research and collaboration;
Some experience with securing projects with third-party funding;
Readiness to participate in academic administration;
Development of international visibility.
