PROFESSOR (W2) IN „LIFELONG LEARNING WITH A FOCUS ON NON-FORMAL AND INFORMAL LEARNING“
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum - faculty of philosophy and educational sciences invites applications for the
position of a Professor (W2) in „Lifelong learning with a focus on non-formal and informal learning“ to
start at the beginning of the winter semester 2017/18.
The appointment will be in the institute’s research group „formal, non-formal, and informal learning“.
In this context, the future holder of the post will represent the subject of lifelong learning in research and
teaching particularly regarding
Development of the relationship of primary and secondary education to post-secondary education
Development of the relationship of formal, non-formal, and informal learning across the lifespan.
Moreover, the future holder of the post is expected to be proficient in qualitative-reconstructive methods in the social sciences.
The future holder of the post will represent the subject in research and teaching.
The applicant should further be expected to teach courses in the B. A. and M. A. Educational Sciences programs and to teach
educational sciences courses in the M. of Ed. program.
The applicants should have made relevant, internationally visible scholarly contributions and demonstrated the ability to
attract external funding in the areas described above. Further requirements are a completed masters-level degree in relevant
disciplines from a doctorate-granting university, an earned doctorate, and positive evaluation as a junior professor or
equivalent academic achievement (e.g. habilitation). Evidence of special pedagogical aptitude for academic teaching and
high commitment to teaching are just as required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of RUB.
The appointment in the Institute of Educational Sciences includes participation in interdisciplinary projects in the
Professional School of Education and in the Center of Educational Studies, particularly in the context of externally-funded
research projects, and requires willingness to collaborate in additional core research areas of the university and the faculty.
Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic achievement (e.g. habilitation) and evidence of special
aptitude are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB and to generally
get involved in university processes according to RUB’s mission statement.
We expect further more:
high commitment in teaching;
readiness to participate in interdisciplinary academic work;
willingness and ability to attract external funding.
