The University of Marburg, founded in 1527, offers a variety of excellent programs of study for around 22,000 students and confronts the important topics of our time through excellent research across a broad spectrum of sciences.
The Department of Pharmacy at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is seeking to fill the following position as of 01.07.2025
Professorship (W 2) for Medicinal Synthetic Chemistry
The holder of the position shall represent synthetic, medicinal chemistry in research and the entire spectrum of pharmaceutical chemistry in teaching. The call is aimed at internationally recognized scientists whose research focuses on the design, synthesis and testing of biologically active, low-molecular-weight organic or peptidic/peptidomimetic molecules. Research aspects concerning the efficient exploration of chemical space, the integration of artificial intelligence methods or strategies for the parallel synthesis of molecules are also desired. A clear link to pharmaceutical and medical questions is a prerequisite. It is desired that candidates will strengthen already established research focus areas such as anti-infectives, GPCRs, RNA targeting and neurodegenerative diseases. Interdepartmental cooperation in research alliances - especially with the Departments of Medicine and Chemistry as well as the SYNMIKRO and CMBB centers - is practiced reality at the University of Marburg. The participation or leadership of the Department of Pharmacy in such collaborations in the past (e.g. LOEWE GLUE, DRUID, CoroPan, medicalRNomics, SFB 1021, SFB/Transregio 81) and in the future (planned SFB/Transregios on the targeting of GPCRs and RNA) reflects the above-mentioned research priorities. We therefore expect the willingness to participate in these existing and future research networks at the department, at the University of Marburg, at the Research Campus Mittelhessen as well as in international projects and the willingness to help shape them.
Tasks:
The establishment of a dynamic research program as well as active participation in research and teaching is expected. In addition to German-language teaching in accordance with the licensing regulations for pharmacists, collaboration in interdisciplinary (including English-language) teaching programs is expected. A license to practice as a pharmacist is desirable.
Profile:
We would like to recruit a person with an outstanding track record in research and teaching. We therefore expect international visibility, outstanding academic achievements as evidenced by relevant publications in international journals, experience in conducting research projects and independent teaching as well as the successful acquisition of third-party funding.
The recruitment requirements of §§ 67 and 68 HessHG apply. The University of Marburg attaches great importance to the intensive supervision of students and doctoral candidates and expects lecturers to maintain a strong presence at the university. In addition, the Department of Pharmacy attaches considers social skills in combination with a team-oriented working style to be of importance.
