The University Medical Center Göttingen is a tertiary care center and offers great development potential. Its 7,900 employees work in over 65 departments and facilities to provide top-quality patient care, excellent research and modern teaching. Göttingen, “City of Science”, located near the center of Germany, the University Medical Center Göttingen is embedded in the city’s attractive network of scientific research facilities.
The professorship for Translational Cancer Research was recently appointed at the Department of General, Visceral and Pediatric Surgery. The group of Günter Schneider is aiming to improve understanding and therapeutic strategies of gastrointestinal cancers. Gastrointestinal cancers, like pancreatic cancer or cholangiocellular carcinomas, are nearly always fatal, demonstrating the medical need to develop novel precise therapies. The group will focus on low-passaged primary patient-derived cellular models, like organoids, to decipher, understand and target novel vulnerabilities. To define cancer dependencies, combined pharmacological and genetic screening will be applied. Druggable vulnerabilities will be mechanistically analyzed across species and models. The results will be used to develop a translational therapeutic pipeline for precision oncology (e. g. Falcomatà et al., Cancer Discovery, 2021; Biederstädt et al., Gut, 2020; Dantes et al., Jci Insight, 2020; Schneider et al., Nature Reviews Cancer, 2017; Mazur et al., Nature Medicine, 2015).
We are seeking a self-motivated and independent scientist with a PhD degree in biomedicine, biochemistry, biology or related fields with a specific interest in translational gastrointestinal cancer research. Experience in establishing and culturing primary patient-derived cellular cancer models, screening technologies and bioinformatic data analysis are especially welcome. Experiences in basic and advanced cellular and molecular biology techniques are mandatory. The Postdoc is expected to be highly collaborative and pass on skills and knowledge to other team members and visitors. He / she will be involved in the supervision of PhD students and undergraduates. Excellent communication skills for scientific discussion are indispensable.
