At the next possible Point of Start we are looking for a highly motivated
Postdoctoral scientist / PhD student (f/m/x)
These full time positions are initially for 36 months with a possibility for extension.
A postdoctoral position and a PhD student position are immediately available in the area of genome stability in themammalian germline in the lab of Attila Toth.
The Toth lab is at the Technische Universität Dresden, which is one the few Elite Universities in Germany, featuring a life sciences focus area, and a highly
international and collaborative researchcommunity. The Toth group strives to uncover the molecular mechanisms of chromosome biology that ensure safetransmission
of genetic information to the germline. Generation of haploid gametes from diploid germ cells by meiosis isthe hallmark of sexually-reproducing organisms. Orderly
halving of chromosome numbers poses unique challenges whichrequire meiosis-specific features of chromosome biology.
One of the key features of meiosis is a modified homologous recombination that initiates with the generation of potentiallygenotoxic DNA breaks. Careful regulation of
meiotic recombination initiation is pivotal for the generation of gametes withhealthy genomes, yet, the understanding of the underlying mechanisms is sketchy. This
ambitious project will explore theprinciples that control spatiotemporal dynamics of meiotic recombination initiation in mice. We will combine advancedchromatin analysis,
cytology and large scale sequencing technologies. Further, the project involves a close cooperationwith physicists / bioinformaticians in the campus to develop quantitative
models for recombination. Relevant articles ofthe lab, doi:10.1093/nar/gkab082. doi: 10.1016/j.molcel.2019.03.022. doi: 10.1038/ncb3417. doi: 10.1038/ncb2213
