The Center for Innovation Competence (German: Zentrum für Innovationskompetenz, ZIK) OncoRay – Center for Radiation Research in Oncology aims to develop innovative methods for biologically individualized, technologically optimized radiation therapy for improving cancer treatment. OncoRay has been established in 2005 as an interdisciplinary research center by the University of Technology Dresden, the University Hospital Dresden and the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf. It is located at the Faculty of Medicine and offers high-level research facilities, internationally acknowledged expertise in translational cancer and radiation research, and a dedicated postgraduate school with an MSc and a PhD program. Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/x)

in Imaging Physics focused on MR-LINAC

at the earliest possible date. The salary will be according to the TV-L dispositions.

The main task will be the establishment of imaging-based research on the novel MR linear accelerator (MR-LINAC) and of accompanying studies on the MR scanners available on the campus of Hochschulmedizin Dresden. You will work together with medical physicists (MPE) and with scientific personnel experienced in MR imaging on the following topics:
  • implementation of MR-sequences (anatomical and in particular functional) on the MR-LINAC available for clinical use and on the MR scanners available for accompanying research
  • support in developing tools for regular quality assurance of the MR-component of the MR-LINAC
  • development of prospective protocols for non-invasive response assessment of the tumor and of the radiation-sensitive normal tissues
  • translation of new methods, approaches and workflows in clinical use
  • establishment and support of cooperation with international partners and acquisition of external funds for scientific Research
Additionally you will participate in educational activities of the OncoRay Postgraduate School and potentially the Master program (Medical radiation sciences) as well as the supervision of students (BSc, MSc) and PhD candidates.

Your profile:
  • PhD in (applied) physics or biomedical engineering or related fields
  • background in radiation therapy physics and / or medical radiation physics is recommended
  • expertise in MR image processing and pulse sequence programming and optimization
  • affinity with quantitative MR imaging methods and / or in advanced MR image reconstruction techniques
  • advanced knowledge on image analysis
  • good programming skills in Python, Matlab, R
  • team player is expected to drive the project with a multi-disciplinary team of medical physicists, computer scientists and clinicians
  • interest in developing clinical applications for MR-guided radiation treatments
  • excellent English language skills, both spoken and written; proficient German language skills
