The Faculty of Biology, Chemistry & Earth Sciences is currently seeking to appoint a
Junior Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry (pay grade: W1)
to commence in winter semester 2018 / 2019. This is a fixed-term civil service position with a tenure-track option.
Ecology & the Environmental Sciences are one of the University of Bayreuth’s focus areas. The successful candidate will have
expertise in chemical reactions in the surface layer of the atmosphere, in the dynamics of aerosols, and in the exchange of matter
between the atmosphere and ecosystems. Demonstrated expertise in combining laboratory and field experiments is of advantage.
The professor will teach Atmospheric Chemistry mainly in the curricula of BSc & MSc Geo-Ecology and MSc. Environmental Chemistry.
The ability to teach in English is expected. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation
in the Bayreuth Center of Ecology and Environmental Research (BayCEER).
In addition to the general administrative requirements, prerequisites for this position are (in accordance with Articles 14 and 15 BayHSchPG)
a university degree, proven excellence in teaching, and the ability to carry out scholarly research (generally demonstrated by the quality of
the applicant’s doctoral research). If the candidate was employed as a graduate assistant or research associate prior to or subsequent to
earning his or her doctorate, the total duration of the doctoral research phase and the employment phase should not exceed six years.
The successful candidate will initially be appointed for a period of three years and will be extended for an additional three years upon
successful evaluation. In accordance with § 4 para 1 number 3 of the Teaching Assignment Ordinance (Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung), the
teaching load is currently set at 5 hours weekly during the semester in the first phase and 7 hours in the second phase. Upon completing
the appointment process again after the first six years, the incumbent may be appointed University Professor (pay grade: W2) as a permanent
civil service position.
